About Russell, the founder of Incubator

My name's Russell and I'm the founder of Incubator.

Yep, that’s me on the right. You’re probably wondering how I got here.

This will be the only blog post about me because I’m not particularly interested in talking about myself. I already know my story. But if I were in your shoes, I’d be curious about me too. So here are some FAQs about me and we’ll leave it at that.

FAQs about Russell

I was born and raised in Fairfax County, VA

I graduated from The University of Mary Washington with a B.A. in communication

I sang in choirs from ages 12-23. That's where I learned most of the music theory I know and where I acquired the musical taste I have.

I was also in an indie folk band from 2012-2016. That's where I learned how to make songs.

From ages 24 to 32, I basically stopped playing music. I was sad. I started a business instead. I also got married. Eventually I realized traditional business and traditional relationships are not for me.

So at 32, I moved to D.C. from Fairfax County put up an Instagram page for Incubator. Then I met the initial members of Incubator at Creatives Club, a wonderful gathering of artists and creatives in DC.

I started it because I was in a new city and I wanted to play music in an environment that was introvert and neurodivergent-friendly environment. That environment didn’t exist so I made it.
