My big takeaway from my 20’s is that people in their 20’s are not old enough to make long term decisions for themselves.
We’re expected to choose the life we want and stick with it in our 20’s.
But in our 20’s, we’re still young. We’re getting to know ourselves and learning about the world.
But we make these decisions early because that’s what people do.
And we feel good about it afterwards because we’ve committed and we really really want it to work out.
That feeling may last months or years, but as time goes on…
Something happens…
And as natural beings in a natural world, hopefully we change with them.
Hopefully we get older and learn what we like and what we need. .
Hopefully we can we acknowledge if what a past version of ourselves chose no longer serves us.
Sometimes that means walking away from a career or relationship you’ve invested years into.
Sometimes that means starting from 0 at age 29.
Over our 20’s (and 30’s if we allow it), we’ll meet people who will shake us to core. The world will change.
A future version of you may be unrecognizable if you allow yourself to change with the seasons.
and that idea isn’t wrong.
You’ll have ideas your whole life. And they’ll change with you.
We were raised to find comfort in stability because a stable worker is a good worker.
But like plants and animals, we grow. Our whole lives.
And you have as much time as you want to explore and figure out what you want.
